7Z is a free, open archive format created by the author of 7-Zip. It typically produces noticeably smaller archives than ZIP, supports strong AES-256 encryption, and handles huge files that some old ZIP tools can't. If you're shipping a download, sharing a big folder, or backing up data, 7Z saves bandwidth and disk space.
7Z is supported by 7-Zip on Windows, Keka and The Unarchiver on macOS, p7zip on Linux, and most Android archive apps — all free.
Morphix uses a WebAssembly build of libarchive to read your ZIP file directly in the browser. It extracts every file and folder, then repacks them into a standard 7Z archive. The entire pipeline runs locally — your archive never leaves your device, there's no server, and there's no upload progress bar because there's nothing to upload.
We don't offer ZIP to RAR — and neither does any honest open-source tool. RAR is a proprietary, closed format owned by win.rar GmbH and only the official WinRAR can create .rar files. 7Z is the best free and open alternative, and in most cases it compresses better than RAR.
