How do I compress a photo to exactly 20KB?

Select the 20 KB preset and drop the photo. Morphix binary-searches JPEG quality between 5% and 95%, and if quality alone is not enough it progressively reduces the pixel dimensions until the file fits under 20 KB.

Why do exam and visa forms ask for 20KB or 50KB photos?

Government exam portals (SSC, UPSC, NEET), visa systems and bank KYC forms store millions of records, so they cap photo and signature uploads at tiny sizes — commonly 20 KB for a signature and 50–100 KB for a passport photo. Files above the cap are rejected outright.

Will the photo still be readable?

Morphix always keeps the highest quality that fits, and only downscales dimensions once quality reduction alone can't reach the target — so you get the best possible result for your limit.

How the size search works

Morphix runs a binary search across JPEG quality (7 probes between 5% and 95%) at the original resolution. If even the lowest quality overshoots your target, it shrinks the image by 25% and searches again — up to six rounds. The result is the highest quality version that still fits, not an arbitrary “low / medium / high” guess.
