OpenAI TTS voice direction: a practical guide
Good AI narration starts before you press play. These five habits make OpenAI text-to-speech voices sound natural, on-tone and easy to listen to — and the generator below applies them to your own text.
1. Write for the ear, not the page
Text-to-speech reads exactly what you give it. Symbols, abbreviations and long sentences trip it up. Spell out numbers and units, swap “&” for “and”, and break long sentences into short, breathable clauses.
Before
v2 has 3x faster sync & offline mode. From $12/mo.
After
Version two syncs three times faster, and now works offline. Plans start at twelve dollars a month.
2. Give the voice a clear delivery style
OpenAI’s newer speech models accept separate delivery instructions alongside the text. Keep them short and concrete: who is speaking, how they feel, and how fast. Describe one mood, not five.
Before
Read this nicely and make it engaging and exciting but also calm.
After
Warm podcast host. Curious, gently amused. Natural conversational pace.
3. Control pacing with punctuation
Commas, full stops and ellipses shape rhythm more reliably than asking for “a pause here”. Use an ellipsis or a new sentence where you want silence; keep emphasis words near the end of a sentence.
Before
In 1974 the factory closed and within a decade the town lost most of its people.
After
In nineteen seventy-four, the factory closed… Within a decade, the town had lost most of its people.
4. Pick a voice that fits the job
Each built-in voice has its own timbre. Try the same line in two or three voices before committing — a deeper voice suits documentary narration, a brighter one suits onboarding and product videos.
5. Render long scripts in sentence-sized chunks
Very long inputs can hit length limits. Split at sentence boundaries so nothing is cut mid-word, then join the audio. Morph-ix does this automatically for long scripts.

Paste your text. Morph-ix applies all five tips above, writes a delivery note, picks a voice, and can narrate the result. 1 credit per script.
Let Morph-ix do the directing
Paste your text into the studio, choose tone, emotion and pacing, and Morph-ix rewrites it for speech and narrates it with the voice you pick.
